Nine year old Ralphie Parker wants one thing for Christmas, an official red ryder range model carbine action BB gun. There’s only one problem: everyone else is convinced he’ll shoot his eye out. Undeterred, he begins his saga of convincing all the necessary players, from his sweet and protective mother, to his straightlaced teacher, Miss Shields, all the way to Santa Claus himself, that he needs that gun for the protection of his loved ones, and maybe even a little cowboy glory to call his own. Ralphie’s vivid imagination conjures up several numbers, from “Ralphie to The Rescue” in which he defeats every foe a young boy can think of (robbers, mustache twirling villains, and of course, the school bully), to thrilling tap routine performed by a gun moll-esque Miss Shields, who sheds her sweater set and romance novel for a glittery red gown and a whole lot of moxie.

Learn the art of making fantastically flavored chocolates and bark over the course of two hours while creating nearly 1.5 pounds of confections. During this class, students will create a tray of filled chocolates with favorites like salted caramels and other holiday flavors made by chocolatier Michelle Lomelin. Students will also select from more than two dozen ingredients as they personalize a chocolate bark – with options including freeze dried fruits, candied orange peel and lemon peel alongside savory pretzels, potato chips, nuts and more.

12월 21일 Art of Elan: Young Artists in Harmony
Art of Elan's Season 13, Hear & Now, includes a three-year musical BaCH Initiative, increased community engagement, new strategic partnerships, and a continued commitment to commissioning new work. Hear & Now focuses on contemporary culture and the importance of cultural context in uniting an increasingly diverse, complex, and changing world through music. The timeless music of J. S. Bach weaves in and out of a season that highlights music from a wide variety of composers and time periods, including several local premieres. The San Diego Museum of Art concert series includes two free pop-up performances in addition to three gallery concerts that showcase the music of Missy Mazzoli, Darius Milhaud, Claude Debussy, and J. S. Bach, among others. The BaCH Initiative kicks off in the rotunda of The San Diego Museum of Art on November 19, 2019, and will include performances and collaborations with La Jolla Music Society, Mira Mesa High School, and the Centro de Artes Musicales in Tijuana.

This exhibit is curated by Keith York, and runs concurrently with Julius Shulman: Modern La Jolla, showing at the La Jolla Historical Society.

Come get messy with mother nature and unearth the art of natural dyeing. Explore the technique of bundle dyeing, using flowers and plant-based food scraps to infuse natural pigment into fiber. You are welcome to bring a small cotton garment: onesie for a baby, t-shirt, or bandana. Pre-wash the cotton pieces in hot water with vinegar and detergent. For use in your bundle, gather and bring your favorite colorful flower heads and petals, onion skins, berries, purple carrots, purple cabbage; basically anything in the red/purple family that you have in your kitchen. Please register in advance.
