If you are thinking about Higher Education in the UK, this course will help you to improve your English to ensure that you are fully prepared. You do not need an English language qualification to apply.

The English for Academic Study (EAS) programme consists of up to three 10 week courses. Where you enter the programme depends on your current level of English.

• Develop Your English at intermediate level from October to December.
• Extend Your English at higher intermediate level from January to March.
• Consolidate Your English at lower advanced level from April to June.

If you are not sure which course is right for you, please call or email us and we will help you decide. Many of our students decide to take all three parts of the syllabus.

Studying EAS at the University of Brighton could be of great benefit to you.

• You will develop a solid foundation in general and academic English and you will extend your understanding of British culture and English academic conventions.
• We will help you prepare for your next IELTS test (if required).
• On successful completion of our EAS programme you may be able to proceed directly to a University of Brighton degree without having to take the IELTS test.
• We will help you with the application process for a British university course.
• Our EAS courses are based at the university and taught by tutors who understand the skills and knowledge that you will need for academic success.
• The EAS programme provides excellent opportunity to meet other students and get used to academic life in the UK before going on to study for a degree.

If you have an offer to study for a degree at the University of Brighton, the pre-sessional English programme will help you improve your English before you start.

The pre-sessional English programme has several advantages:

• You will not need to take another IELTS test. You can go straight from the pre-sessional course to your degree, providing you pass our assessments.
• The pre-sessional English courses are based at the university and taught by tutors who understand the skills and knowledge that you will need for academic success.
• The pre-sessional programme is an excellent opportunity to meet other students and get used to life in the UK before your degree starts.

If you have an unconditional offer to study for a degree at the University of Brighton, you can still join our pre-sessional programme. Many of our students choose to do this to boost their confidence in academic English before they start. The four-week programme is particularly suitable for this although you are welcome to register for the eight or 12-week course if you prefer.

The extended masters route allows you to combine a masters degree with an English language course. You can typically obtain a single UK visa to cover both parts. Depending on your current language level you will study English for between two and four months before starting your masters course.

The objective of the English language study in the extended masters route is to help you build up a strong academic vocabulary that specifically relates to your masters subject. You will have an opportunity to work with specialist tutors from your area of study before starting your masters degree.
