Hotchkiss School

1891년에 설립된 이 학교는 전체 미국의 중고등학교 중에서 상위 20위 내에 드는 최우수 학교이며 유학생의 경우 전학년 성적이 전체 학생 중 15%에 포함된 우수 학생만이 입학이 가능하다. SSAT도 40% 이상을 요구하고 있고, 일단 합격만 되면 꼭 재학하도록 추천하는 학교이다.

약 520에이커에 이르는 Hotchkiss캠퍼스가 위치한 레이크빌 마을은 인구 약 3, 700명의 코네티컷주 북서부에 있는 시골지역 셀리스베리 군에 속하는데 학교 주변은 언덕과 수림이 두 개의 호수 경계를 이루고 있는 아름다운 곳이다. 뉴욕시에서 2시간 15분 정도, 하트포드시에서 1시간 30분 정도 그리고 보스턴에서 3시간 30분 정도 걸린다.

학급당 학생수는 13명 정도이다. AP가 개설된 코스가 많이 있고 연간 4회에 걸쳐 성적이 부모에게 발송되고 있다. 학생이 과외로 공부가 필요할 때는 언제든지 교사의 도움을 받을 수 있으며, 고학년학생 중 성적이 우수한 경우 교환학생 프로그램으로 중국, 프랑스, 스페인, 남아프리카 등지에서 공부할 수 있는 기회도 갖게 된다.

Hotchkiss strives to develop in students a life-long love of learning, responsible citizenship, and personal integrity. Our diverse student body comes from 30 states and 18 foreign countries. With over 220 courses, Hotchkiss offers a large-school academic experience with a small-school feeling. The average class size is 13, and facilities include: 87,000 item library; visual arts center; two theatres; new state-of-the-art athletic complex; golf course; and tennis courts on a 546-acre campus. Over $4.4 million in financial aid is available each year.
