Loomis Chaffee School

1914년 코네티컷주 윈저에 설립된 Loomis Chaffee School(이하LCS )는 루미스 집안의 4명의 형제자매에 의해 세워진 남녀공학 학교로서 기숙사거주와 통학 모두 가능하다. 설립자의 의도에 따라 학생들의 정신적 독립, 타인에 대한 배려, 노동력 그리고 곧은 가치관을 개발시키기 위해 노력하고 있는 학교로 알려져 있다. 약 300에이커에 달하는 캠퍼스는 하트포드에서 10분, 뉴헤이븐에서 1시간, 뉴욕에서 2시간 10분, 보스턴에서 2시간 가량 떨어진 곳에 있다.

학과목 전반에 걸쳐 AP가 가능하고 교환학생 프로그램에 의해 프랑스나 스페인에서 1년 동안 민박하여 공부할 수 있는 기회가 주어지기도 한다. 또한 독일어과 학생들은 겨울 동안 독일에 있는 학교에서 공부하며 보낼 수 있는 기회를 갖는다. 연간 3학기제이며 학급당 학생수는 14명이고, 학생과 교사비는 6:1정도이다. 기숙사 거주학생 4명당 1명의 교직원이 기숙사에 거주하며 학생들을 보살피고 있다.

이 학교는 전체 중·고등학교 순위에서 40위 권에 오르는 우수 학교로 유학생의 선발에서도 반드시 SSAT점수를 낼 것을 요구하는 까다로운 학교이다. 학교의 ESL은 유럽, 일본에서 유명해서 여름학기에는 1백여명의 학생들이 여름학기에 어학을 배우기 위해 외국에서 오고 있다. 학교의 교육이념이 대학진학보다도 인성교육에 치중해 있어 다소 대학 진학에 덜 신경 쓰는 편이라는 것이 재학생들의 말이다. 여학생을 위해 예능 교육이 탁월한 것이 장점이다.

미국 코네티컷 주 북부 하트퍼드 시 북쪽 교외지대에 있는 읍. 이곳에 코네티컷 주 최초의 영국인 촌락이 생겼는데, 1633년 윌리엄 홈스 대령의 인솔하에 플리머스 식민지에서 온 사람들이 파밍턴 강과 코네티컷 강의 합류지점에 설치한 교역소가 그것이었습니다. 원래 이름은 매티어넉이었는데 1635년 매사추세츠 주 도체스터 출신의 청교도들이 영구 정착하면서 1637년 영국의 칙허자치시 이름을 따서 윈저로 개칭되었습니다.
초기 정착민 중에는 주 최초의 헌법인 코네티컷 기본법(1639)의 기초자 가운데 한 사람인 로저 러들로도 있었습니다. 윈저(공식으로 법인 인가를 받은 적은 없음)의 원래 면적은 훨씬 넓었으며, 현재의 윈저록스·이스트윈저·사우스윈저·심스베리·블룸필드·엘링턴 등의 읍이 모두 여기에 속해 있었습니다.
정치가이며 법률가이고 미국의 3번째 대법원장이었던 올리버 엘스워스(1745~1807)가 이곳 출신이며, 그의 자작농장(1740경)은 아직도 보존되어 있습니다. 1950년 이후 경공업이 발전해 전통적인 농업경제를 보조하고 있습니다. 인구 27,764(1992).
