In arguably one of the most confounding yet legendary stories in Australia\s rich rock \n\ roll history, enigmatic songwriter Jeremy Oxley spearheaded the Sunnyboys through a combustible four-year career that saw them become one of the country\s most cherished and greatest live bands.
Emerging from a thriving post-Radio Birdman Sydney, Sunnyboys (Jeremy - guitar / vocals, his brother Peter - bass, Richard Burgman guitar and Bil Bilson drums) would change the nation\s pop-rock landscape forever. From their first show in August 1980 to sweat-soaked, sold-out crowds, to garnering pure hysteria; the inner-city four piece would pave the way for their contemporaries (Hoodoo Gurus, The Triffids, Nick Cave), their successors (You Am I, Hummingbirds, Ratcat) and a whole new movement of breakthrough Australian artists.
Proving timeless purveyors of high energy pop-rock with hit singles \Happy Man\, \Alone With You\, \You Need a Friend\, \Show Me Some Discipline\ - the classic Sunnyboys songbook unearthed a pop-poet genius in Jeremy, providing the most raw, unpretentious and utterly addictive of soundtracks to the intensity, strength, joy and sadness of teenage living.
Ultimately splitting in 1984 due to industry pressures and personal health issues, Sunnyboys would reunite just once, in 1991, for a sold out national tour. It would then take until 2012 and an invitation to appear at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre for Dig It Up! (The Hoodoo Gurus Invitational) before the original Sunnyboys line-up would finally grace the stage again. Appearing under the pseudonym Kids In Dust there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the band played with all the intensity and verve as they had all those years ago.
Described by Guru’s frontman Dave Faulkner as \the first band to come out of the rock \n\ roll underground who could hold their own in the mainstream\, Vivid LIVE now proudly presents a vital new chapter for the band in a festival finale that will see the Sydney Film Festival host the world premiere of new documentary The Sunnyboy, followed by the Sunnyboys in a watershed moment as they take to the stage for their long-deserved Concert Hall debut.
