호주 샌프란 어학연수 수기~

안녕하세요? 저는 Sang Lee입니다. 미국에 온지도 언 3년이 다 되가네요. 처음 종로유학원을 
통해서 어학연수 할 때를 생각해보면 정말 영어도 못해서 하루하루가 새로운 도전이었는데 
지금은 나름 미국생활에 잘 적응하면서 유학생활을 보내고 있습니다. 돌이켜 보면 현재 유학
생활을 잘 적응 할 수 있게 도움을 주신 샌프란시스코 지사 직원 분들에게 많이 감사 합니다.

샌프란시스코 어학연수 생활 당시뿐만 아니라 추후 미 대학 진로에 많은 조언을 주신 모든 분
들에게 감사 드리며.  특히 대학진학에 많은 도움을 주신 팀장님께 감사 드립니다. 처음 어학
원 생활부터 현재 대학생활까지 제가 겪었던 경험들이 새롭게 유학생활을 계획 하시는 분들에
게 도움이 되고자 경험담을 적어 보겠습니다. 제 자신이 지난 3년 동안 얼만큼 영어가 늘었는
지 확인도 해보고 싶어 지금부터는 영어로 한번 저희 유학생활에 대해 써볼까 합니다. 

물론 완벽하지는 않지만 앞으로 유학생활을 준비하는 학생들에게 간접적인 유학생활 경험을 
전달해 줄 수 있을 거라 믿습니다.  


It has been 3 years since I came to the United States. I was not even able to 
understand and speak Engilsh at all when I came to study in the United States. 
I started studying English at Intrax in San Francisco. It was totally new experience to
me that I studied at Intrax. 

The thing that I surprised most was cultural differences between Korea and America. 
Everyone in our class was so active to learn English, but I was not. I was so passive 
whatever I was involved with learning English. I was so used to the way of education 
system in Korea where students just follow what teachers teach. Thus, it took me more 
time to learn English compared with other students in class. 

However, I realized that I needed to change my learning style, more active. 
So, I started to be more active, trying to participate in every activity in class. 
After 6 months being active in class, my confidence of speaking English was higher than
before.

Once I got more confidence of English, I felt that I can study at a college in America.
Staffs at Chongro Agency in San Francisco provided me a list of Colleges at CA and 
helped me choose a right school for me. I really appreciated their help, especially the
manager of the branch. With their important help, I have applied for De Anza College 
located in  Cupertino where there are a lot of students who want to transfer to a 
university.  

The reasons that I chose De Anza College were because of three things. 
First, De Anza College is located in Cupertino, CA. Cupertino is ranked as one of the
most educated cities in CA.  Also, there are a lot of popular companies in the city 
such as Apple and Google. 
Second, De Anza College is ranked as first or second school where many students have 
succeeded in transferring to UC Universities and CSU. Third, De Anza College offers a 
variety of majors that students can choose. 


I am majoring in statistic and almost complete 90 units that is a requirement unit to
transfer to a university. At the first time at De Anza College, I started taking ESL
course in order to take GE and major requirement. Even though I felt confident of 
studying at a College before getting into, it was really hard to study at De Anza 
College. I didn't know what to do at the first quarter of De Anza College. I couldn't
even understand what professors in my class said.

I always used my voice recorder in order to record a lecture and listened to it more 
than twice after class. In addition, I went to see professors whenever I had questions
about class after class. It took more time than I had expected to adapt to a College 
life, but now I feel confident of studying at De Anza College and am ready to move on 
the next level, studying at a University. What I have learned from Institutes that 
I had attended is that when you feel you are not enough, put your extra efforts on 
whatever you want to accomplish, then you will be reaching it. I believe that because
I have accomplished what I had wanted, you can also do that.
